& Rich History
Our community is blessed with exceptional attractions that draw visitors throughout the year
Grand Army of the Republic
Redfield is one of the oldest towns in Dallas County and the GAR Lodge is the only remaining building left from the original town located on the original site due to a 1900 fire that leveled an entire block of the downtown area. Built sometime in the 1880s by local men, probably members of the Marshall Post of the G.A.R.
Redfield Railroad Depot
Built in 1889, the Dawson Depot served the passengers, crew, and freight transported on the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific rail line. In the 1950s, rail service was discontinued. Today the Redfield Depot serves travelers on the Raccoon River Valley Trail with an Indoor Rest Area, Bike repair station, Information kiosk, Modern restrooms, Water source, Outdoor picnic tables and Historical displays.
Hanging Rock Park
Step back in time at this historic sandstone outcrop along the Middle and South Raccoon Rivers. Once a wagon train ford, today it offers scenic hiking, canoe/kayak launch, fishing, picnicking, and shelter in a beautiful park setting complete with an astronomical rock clock.
Raccoon River Valley Trail
Explore 89 miles of paved trail perfect for biking, walking, and outdoor recreation. This premier destination runs right through our community, connecting visitors to the beauty of Iowa's river valley.
Redfield Dam
Experience excellent fishing opportunities, winter bald eagle viewing along the Middle Raccoon River with canoe and kayak launch and landing. This scenic spot showcases Iowa's natural wildlife at its finest.
Redfield Historical Museum
Discover our community's rich heritage, including our role as a stop on the Underground Railroad, through local artifacts, school photos from the 1920s–1990s, and memorable displays that tell our area's story.
